The idea for ‘Beyond the Back Door’ has been a number of years in the making, but really developed during the early days of the Covid lockdowns, when, along with so many people, we started spending more and more time in our garden.

As our children had grown, the back garden had been focussed on their entertainment – everything from wendy houses, trampolines, and swings, to football goalposts and campout birthday parties etc. Finally, by the late 2010s, as our children started to disappear of to university, we were able to start planning a more grown-up use of the space.

We’d started this work in 2019, but having some time off work during lockdown allowed us to spend more time in the garden and really make it what we wanted it to be. It’s continuing to evolve - a garden is never truly 'finished' - but we now have a space that we love to spend time in. and it has made a huge difference to our home environment.

I love to design and build, having been inspired as a child by watching my dad, who was a skilled craftsman and a passionate gardener. After a career in IT, designing and delivering systems for many well-known organisations, it's time for something a little more personal, and I'm keen to use the skills I've developed to help others make the most of their outside space.
